Syrupmakers take on Worth Friday night

After two road games to Albany’s Hugh Mills Stadium, and two region wins, the Syrupmakers (4-2, 2-0) are back home this Friday night to take on the Worth County Rams(3-4, 1-2) in another region 1-AAA match up.  The Syrupmakers have won two big games in a row since losing to TCCHS on September 16 at West Thomas Stadium.  Cairo beat Monroe 33-7 on September 23 and after an open date, went back to Albany and beat Dougherty 42-13 last week. The Rams were stunned last week by Monroe, who defeated Worth County 27-6 in Sylvester. The Syrupmakers are also coming off a short Fall Break with no school on Monday and Tuesday of this week.
Worth County has literally been up and down all season, losing their season opener to Fitzgerald, then coming back with a win over Turner County, before losing the next week to Cook County, only to come back the next week and defeat Tift County. The Rams then blew a 22 point lead and lost their region opener to Americus- Sumter, and then rebounded for a win over Westover before losing last week to Monroe.  In last week’s lost to the Tornadoes, the Rams led 6-0 before the Golden Tornadoes scored two touchdowns in 20 seconds just before the half and then went on for the win in the second half.
Worth County finished 6-5 last season with a first round playoff exit. The Rams lost 21-19 to Thomson in a closely contested game. The Rams return 13 starters (seven on offense/ six on defense) from 2010 with the strength coming from the defensive line and secondary. Worth County comes into Friday night’s contest with the Syrupmakers averaging 17.9 points a game on offense, and giving up an average of 21.6 points a game on defense.  The Syrupmakers in their four wins and two losses this season have averaged 30 points a game, while the Syrupmaker defense is giving up an average of 10 points a game.
Cairo and Worth County kick off at West Thomas Stadium this Friday night at 7:30pm.
