Syrupmakers back on the road

The Cairo Syrupmakers are coming off the open date week with a 3-2 record at the halfway point of the season and 1-0 in region play with a win two weeks ago over Monroe.  The Syrupmakers are set to face the Dougherty Trojans this Friday night at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany.
The Trojans, in their second year with coach Jesse Hicks, have struggled with a 1-5 record, with their only win coming over Clarkston High School 40-0 on September 9th.  The Trojans have been on the losing end against Albany 39-7, Mitchell 34-27, Wilkinson 24-6, Westover 47-0 and Crisp County 42-6.
The Trojans who finished with a record of 2-8 last season with wins over Wilkinson and Clarkston High School,  are averaging just 14 points a game on offense and giving up a little over 31 points a game. The Trojans have not defeated the Syrupmakers since 2005, the year they lost to Peach County in the state title game.
Cairo is averaging 27.6 points a game and giving up less than 10 points a game this season.  The Makers only two losses have been to AAAA schools Bainbridge and TCCHS.
“We still have work to do, and there is a lot of football yet to be played,” said Cairo coach Tom Fallaw as his team prepared for the Trojans.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany.
