Funeral service for Joan M. Drew is Tuesday

Mrs. Drew’s grandsons will serve as her pallbearers.
Mrs. Drew was born on August 18, 1934, in Tallahassee, FL, to the late Morris Hunter Miller, Sr. and Ruby Miller Anderson. She was a retired supervisor-social worker for the Grady County Department of Family and Children Services where she was employed for 10 years. Prior to that, Mrs. Drew worked with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for 9 years and Southwestern State Hospital for 11 years.
A dedicated contributor to the community, Mrs. Drew was a member of Cairo Kiwanis Club, Cairo Woman’s Club; past president 2002-2004, Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames, and a board member of the Grady County Department of Family and Children Services. She was also a member of the Briarcliff Garden Club, Child Abuse Council, Volunteer with the First Steps Program at Grady General Hospital, Troubled Children and Local Interagency Group, Community Oriented Police Program, Social Health Advisory Committee and Bold Springs United Methodist Church. In addition, Mrs. Drew was named Georgia Homemaker of the year in 1967 and Grady County Woman of the Year in 2008.
Mrs. Drew is survived by: her husband, Jack C. Drew, Sr. of Cairo, GA; daughters, Cindy Drew Turner (Rodney) of Cairo, GA, Linda Drew Johnson (Bobby) of Thomasville, GA, Lisa Drew Hoop (George) of Ft. Myers, FL; son, Jack C. Drew, Jr. (Lana) of Tifton, GA; grandchildren, Victoria Turner Walden (Eric) of Cairo, GA, Audrey Turner Harper (Hunter) of Coolidge, GA, Hunter Aubrey Turner of Valdosta, GA, Samuel Jack Drew of Atlanta, GA, William Henry Drew of Athens, GA, Drew Bowman Johnson of St. Augustine, FL, Lauren Elizabeth Johnson of Thomasville, GA, Jeb Miller Johnson of Athens, GA, Jason Alexander Hoop of Ft. Myers, FL, Lindsay Marie Hoop of Ft. Myers, FL; great-grandchildren, Aubrey Victoria Walden of Cairo, GA, Kenleigh Ann Walden of Cairo, GA, Hardy Wayne Harper of Coolidge, GA; a half sister, Sharon Wentworth and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Mrs. Drew was preceded in death by her parents; her great-granddaughter, Hollyn Joanna Walden; her sister, Wyandell Miller Ragan; and her brother, Morris Hunter Miller, Jr.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Monday, September 12, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
