Syrupmaid soccer team is region 1-AAA champions

The Cairo Syrupmaids claimed the region 1-AAA championship with a win over the Worth County Lady Rams last Wednesday at West Thomas Stadium. The Syrupmakers also defeated Worth County and can claim another region championship this Wednesday with a win over Westover in Albany in the last regular season game.
The Maids were winners 4-0 and the Syrupmakers won 7-0.
Annie Ross led the Syrupmaids with three goals and one assist, while Haylee Brown had the other Syrupmaid goal. Catherine Wilson had an assist in the win. The Maids will now play Thomson at Cairo next Thursday in the first round of the state playoffs.
In the boys’ game, Lee Ponder had 3 goals to lead the Makers, John Holt had two and Jacobie Brown and Mose Willis had one goal each. Luke Kimmel and Mose Willis each had an assist and Joel Bass had two in the region win.
The Syrupmaker defense did not give up any goals in the win and didn’t even allow the Rams a chance to make a shot on goal all night.
Cairo plays Westover this Wednesday in Albany. The boys play at 5:30 p.m. and the girls play at 7:30. A win for the Makers will give them the region championship, as well.
