TCCHS teams edge Cairo on the court

 The 2010-2011 basketball season is now underway for the Cairo High School Syrupmakers and Syrupmaids. The teams traveled to Thomasville to take on Thomas County Central last Saturday night.
Unfortunately, both the Syrupmaids and Syrupmakers came up short. The Maids lost 39-37 and the Jackets slipped by the Syrupmakers 53-51.
In the first game of the night, the Syrupmaids played the Lady Jackets close all night, trading leads several times before falling to the home team.
TCCHS led 13-10 after one quarter, but the Maids took a 19-17 at the half. The Maids led 29-26 after three quarters, but the Lady Jackets took a four point lead in the final minutes and held on for the win. Alex Tise led the Maids with 9 points, both Kenya Reese and Alexis Hampton had eight points each, and Dominique Davis finished with seven points on the night.
In the nightcap, the Syrupmakers played the Jackets tough, but could not hold on.
The Jackets led 10-7 after one quarter, 30-19 at the half, 41-37 after three quarters and held on to win a close one 53-51. Terrell Bryant led the Makers with 16 points, J.J. Cooper had 11 points along with Trenton Madison, and John Holt finished with five points.
Cairo traveled to Albany to play Dougherty Tuesday and will host Americus-Sumter at 6 p.m. this Friday night at the Cairo Gymnasium.
