Cairo to face Westover for HomecomingCairo to face Westover for Homecoming
The Cairo Syrupmakers (7-0, 3-0) will face the Westover Patriots (2-5, 1-2) this Friday night at West Thomas Stadium for Homecoming. The Syrupmakers are coming off a 42-7 win over Worth County, and the Patriots were defeated by Crisp County 14-3.
The Patriots got off to a good start in region 1-AAA with a 13-0 win over the Dougherty Trojans, but have since lost the last two region games to Worth County and Crisp County.
“This is another region team with a new coach and they are trying to adjust to a new system. Westover is a pretty big team, they can stand in there and battle you. They have a quarterback who does a good job, and a couple of runningbacks that have had some success,” said Cairo coach Tom Fallaw.
In addition to their win over Dougherty, Westover has also defeated Albany 21-7. The Patriots have lost to Mitchell County 26-14, Bainbridge 35-15, and Early 21-14, all outside of region 1-AAA.
Kickoff for Friday night’s game will be 7:30 p.m. Friday night is also “Senior Night.” Senior football players, band members, cheerleaders and ROTC members will be introduced during the pregame festivities, and the Homecoming Queen and her Court will be named at halftime.
