Tigers to play in middle school championship

The 8th grade Washington Tigers lost to Thomas County Middle School in overtime for the second time this season, this time 22-20.  The Tigers will now face that same Thomas County Middle School team in the annual Middle School Championship on October 23rd in Thomasville.
The Tigers hosted the Yellow Jackets at West Thomas Stadium in their final home game of the season last Thursday.  Washington scored first with 5:00 to play in the second quarter when Jacorie Gaines scampered 42 yards for a Tiger touchdown on a pass reception from quarterback Stacy Masten. The Yellow Jackets answered right back with a 63 yard pass reception for a touchdown and took an 8-6 lead with their 2 point conversion.
Washington took the lead again when Stacy Masten intercepted a Yellow Jacket pass and went 62 yards for a touchdown with 23 seconds left in the half.  Jacorie Gaines added the two point conversion and Washington led 14-8 at the half.
Thomas County added another score in the fourth quarter to tie that game at 14 and send the contest into overtime.  Washington took the ball in the first overtime possession and scored on a 6 yard run by Gaines, his second touchdown of the day.  The two point play was no good and the Tigers led 20-14 in overtime.  However, the Yellow Jackets scored on their overtime possession and made the two point conversion to win the game 22-20.
