Red Jackets hope to wrap up Syrupmakers Friday night after 14-9 win over Columbus

The Jordan High School Red Jackets (1-1) come to Cairo Friday night to take on the Syrupmakers (2-0) at West Thomas Stadium Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
The Jackets defeated Columbus High School last Friday night 14-9, while the Makers shutout Bainbridge 14-0.
The Red Jackets were edged by Northside Columbus two weeks ago 10-7, before putting up their first win of the season last week.
“Jordan has a lot of speed and talent at the skill positions,” said Cairo coach Tom Fallaw.
The Red Jackets have scored 21 points this season and allowed 19 in their first two games. The Makers have scored 54 points and have not given up any points in the their first two wins.
Marquez Cohen is the Jackets’ leading rusher. The Jacket runningback had 119 yards two weeks ago against Northside and was sidelined in the fourth quarter last week with a cramp. That made way for his back-up, Hakeem Zanders. Zanders took advantage of his opportunity by scoring the winning touchdown in the 14-9 Jordan victory.
“Zanders had been starting,” Jordan coach Dave
Nurnberg said. “He lost his starting job, but he didn’t let it affect him. He hustled and made the plays.”
Jordan quarterback Demetrius Battle led the game-winning drive, completing a pair of 30-yard passes to move the Jackets down the field.
Syrupmaker fans should also be on the look out for the Jordan High place kicker. Megan Wojciechowski is the area’s only female place kicker and has made all three Jordan extra points this season.
Cairo scored once in the first quarter and once in the third quarter for their second win of the season 14-0 last Friday night in a nonregion battle over the Bainbridge Bearcats. The game is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m.
