Syrupmaids whip Early County 15-7
The Cairo Syrupmaids opened the 2010 home softball schedule with a 15-7 win over the Early County Lady Bobcats last Tuesday. Cairo scored three runs in the first inning, six in the second, and added three more runs in both the fourth and fifth inning. Early County scored one in the second inning and added six more in the third to pull close, trailing 9-7. However, the Maids shut out the visitors in the final two innings for the win.
Michaela Singletary picked up the win on the mound, pitching three innings, allowing seven runs with two strikeouts and four walks. Ashley Knight came on in relief and allowed no runs. Martina Pearce led the Syrupmaids at the plate going 3 for 4 with four RBIs and a double. Dominique Davis was 2 for 3 with a double as well. Ashley Knight and Kaycee Smith both went 2 for 4 at the plate.
Kimmy Fortner,Michaela Singletary, Taylor Ponder and Shelby Hutchins all had singles, as well, in the nonregion win. The Maids opened the region 1-AAA schedule last Thursday against Crisp County.
