Syrupmakers blast Pelham on the diamond

The Cairo Syrupmakers blasted the Pelham Hornets 17-2 Monday night in a non-region baseball game at Cairo High School.The game was called in the bottom of the fourth inning due to the 15 run rule.  Cairo pitcher Jennings Childree allowed just one hit and two runs, Chris Layton came on in the third inning, allowing no runs, no hits, no walks, and striking out four Pelham batters.
Cairo scored nine runs in the first inning, three in the second, three in the third and two more in the fourth for the win. Donnie Baxter hit a three homer in the first inning and singled as well. Trey Kimmel scored twice and had two hits, Tyler Steele had two hits including a double, Richard Brimm had a double as well, and Jonathan Moore, Chris Layton, Chas Funderburke, and DeMichael Brimm all singled.
Chris Layton walked and later scored on a wild pitch to end the game with a 15 run lead. In all,  Layton scored four times on the night. Cairo connected on 11 hits off of Pelham pitching in the win.
