Andrews and Harrison card low score Saturday

Members and friends of Cairo Country Club gathered over the weekend to celebrate the Golden Anniversary of the club.
The festivities kicked off Friday night with a members-only dinner. Attendees enjoyed looking at club memorabilia and historic photos including those of Julien Roddenbery Sr. hitting the first ball to open the club’s first nine holes in 1960.
On Saturday, a 50th Anniversary Tournament was played and former golf pro Ben Celaya was recognized and had the honor of sounding the horn to begin play.
The overall winners were Chad Andrews and Brandon Harrison. Other first flight winners were: Gary McGahee and Bill Hester – second place; Joey Hester and N. NeSmith – third place.
The second flight winners were: Clay Ulmer and Trey Gibbs – first place; Charles Renaud and Matt McCaskill – second place; Dick Porter and Wayne Gilliard – third place.
Taking first place in the third flight were Skeet Miller and Bobby Wind, followed by Ike Powell and Dewey Phelps – second place; Buzz Green and Mark Green – third place.
In the couples flight, first place honors went to Tommy and Gloria Pyles, while Don Thompson and Marguerite Lewis came in second.
The weekend concluded Saturday night with a concert and dance with music provided by the Ralph Roddenbery Band. Club officials say an overflow crowd was in attendance.
