John Holt’s PK in overtime gave the Syrupmaker soccer team a 6-5 win over the Perry Panthers last Friday night at West Thomas Stadium. The teams were tied at the end of regulation 2-2.
Cairo’s Mose WIllis scored both of Cairo’s goals and, at the end of the game, the region 1-AAA match up the score was tied at two. The teams then played two five-minute overtimes and remained tied at two. Next, the teams moved on to penalty kicks. After one time through the order, both teams were still tied.
However, on the second round of kicks, Perry came up short, and John Holt’s kick found the net and the Syrupmakers’ defeated the Panthers in thrilling fashion, sending the team and coach Peterson dashing on the field to pile on Holt in a team celebration.
The Syrupmakers lost a nonregion game earlier in the week to TCCHS 2-0. Friday night was Senior Night and both senior Syrupmaids and Syrupmakers were recognized between games.
