Services for Orris Burroughs are Wednesday

Services for Orris Hoyt Burroughs, 87, of Cairo, Ga., will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Mar., 17, 2010, at Cairo Presbyterian Church, Cairo, with the Rev. Dr. Jim Huffaker and the Rev. Kirk Dausman officiating. Burial was held in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo. Mr. Burroughs passed away on Sunday, Mar. 14, 2010, at Archbold Memorial Hospital, Thomasville, Ga.
Mr. Burroughs was born on April 5, 1922, in Moultrie, Ga., to the late D. Hoyt Burroughs and Alberta Monk Burroughs. He married Mary English Burroughs on Oct. 1, 1952, in Atlanta, Ga. She preceded him in death on June 14, 2009. He served his country in the United States Army Air Corps and was a retired insurance agent with Life of Georgia. Mr. Burroughs was a Deacon and Elder of the Cairo Presbyterian Church. He served as Worshipful Master of the Cairo Masonic Lodge and Commander of the American Legion. He was a member of the Cairo Kiwanis Club and Cairo Golden K.      
Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Nora and Hill Bennett of Cairo, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Tammy Burroughs of Hampton, Ga.; grandchildren, Amy Bennett of Cairo, Ashley Bennett of Cairo, Anna Bennett of Cairo, Taylor Burroughs of Hampton, and Bryant Nicole Burroughs of Hampton; brother, Wayne Burroughs of Moultrie, Ga.; sister, Ruth Litchfield of Houston, Texas.
Mr. Burroughs was preceded in death by: wife, Mary English Burroughs; father, D. Hoyt Burroughs; and mother, Alberta Monk Burroughs.
