Syrupmakers stay unbeaten with wins in Capital City Classic

Isiah Chance’s Cairo Syrupmaker basketball team is undefeated heading into the 2010 part of the season and meat of the schedule after wins over Chiles and FAMU High Schools last week in the Capital City Classic Basketball tournament in Tallahassee. Cairo blasted Chiles High School last Tuesday 70-46 and beat FAMU on Wednesday 58-37.
“It was a good tournament, we played well,” said Chance. With holiday tournaments behind them, Cairo’s girls and boys have region games with Crisp County and Perry this week on the road and a nonregion battle with TCCHS on Saturday at the Cairo gym.
Cairo’s Terrell Bryant was named to the Capital City Classic’s All-Tournament team after his play last week. Bryant had 19 points in Cairo’s win over Chiles High and seven more against FAMU.
In Tuesday’s game with Chiles, Cairo opened up a 21-15 lead and never trailed, leading 41-29 at the half and 54-39 after three, winning 70-46. Along with Bryant’s 19 points, Cairo had two other players in double figures, as well, with Jonathan Williams scoring 16 and Scooby Bodiford 14 points in the win.
On Wednesday, the Syrupmakers made quick work of the Baby Rattlers, leading 27-15 at the half and 42-27 after three before finishing with a 58-37 win. Dakeidres Wade led the Makers with 16 points, Jemonta Baker hit three three-point shots in the second quarter to finish with 14, and Scooby Bodiford had 14.
After their region road games this week, Cairo plays TCCHS at home Saturday in a nonregion game. Tip off of the girls game will be at 6 p.m. at the Cairo gym.
