Syrupmakers thump Patriots, host Woodland Friday night

The Cairo High School Syrupmakers will be busy this week preparing for the first round of the AAA state playoffs when Cairo hosts Woodland High School Friday night at the Syrup Bowl at 7:30 p.m.
The Syrupmakers ended the regular season Friday night with a 17-7 victory over the Westover Patriots.
Trevor Moncrief put the Syrupmakers up with a 24-yard field goal in the first quarter. Then Scobby Bodiford scored on a 23-yard pass from Brian Walker in the second quarter to give Cairo a first half lead of 10-0 going into halftime.
In the second half, Cairo took the opening kick off and drove down the field on a string of long runs by Liquinton Williams, who finished the game with 180 yards of rushing.
Quarterback Brian Walker scored from one yard out to give the Syrupmakers a 17-0 lead.
Westover scored their lone touchdown in the fourth quarter.
