Syrupmakers earn key victory

The Cairo Syrupmakers scored 20 first half points and held on for a 20-0 win over the Dougherty Trojans Friday night in Cairo.  The Cairo defense picked up their first shutout of the season, and the Makers had over 200 yards of rushing for the first time this season as well.
Cairo’s rushing game came together as Lequinton WIlliams  rushed for 108 yards and Miguel Smiley had 93 yards as Cairo finished with 315 yards of offense.  Brian Walker completed six passes for 108 yards as well.
The second half was marred by penalties as the Makers committed six in the second half and four in the first.  Cairo also turned the ball over twice on a wet field, once at the Dougherty 11 yards line and again at the Dougherty 4 yard line.
Cairo will now travel to Perry Next week to take on the Perry Panthers.
