WMS to host championship Saturday

Washington Middle School’s Jacorie Gaines scored four touchdowns last Wednesday as the Washington Middle School 7th grade Tigers defeated the Bainbridge Bearcats 34-8 to earn the right to host the 7th grade championship game this Saturday afternoon.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Tigers got on the board when Gaines scored his first touchdown on a four-yard run. The two-point conversion was no good and the Tigers led 6-0. Washington would score on their next possession when quarterback Stacy Masten found Gaines on a pass that went 79 yards for another Tiger touchdown. The two-point conversion by Derex Hill made it 14-0.
The Tigers scored their next touchdown in the third quarter when Jeremiah Hill ran in from eight yards out and Gaines threw a pass to Brice Knight for the two-pointer. The Tigers now led 22-0. Jacorie Gaines would score his third touchdown of the afternoon on a 21-yard run, but the two-point try failed, making the score Washington 28, Bainbridge 0.
The Bearcats picked up their lone touchdown of the game on an 80-yard run in the fourth quarter and made the two-point conversion, cutting the Tigers’ lead to 28-8.
Washington’s final score on the night came on a 61-yard run by Gaines, his fourth touchdown of the game. The two-point attempt was no good and Washington won 34-8.
The 7th grade Tiger team will now play Americus-Sumter for the 7th grade championship this Saturday at 1 p.m. at West Thomas Stadium.
