Cairo hosts Dougherty Friday night
The two teams coming into Friday night’s region match up at West Thomas Stadium share many similarities. Both the Syrupmakers and Dougherty Trojans are 3-3 on the season; both teams lost their first region game of the season last week; and both teams know a win Friday night keeps them in the region 1-AAA race for the playoffs.
The Dougherty Trojans have defeated Kendrick, Worth County and Westover, and have lost to Americus-Sumter, Early County and Monroe. In fact, the Trojans were undefeated in region 1-AAA until losing last week to the Tornadoes 16-12. Dougherty is averaging just over 17 points a game, while the Makers are averaging 13 points in their first six games. Both teams have given up about 12 points a game on defense.
Cairo has wins over Thomasville, Worth County and Monroe, with losses to Bainbridge, Thomas County Central and Peach County.
“Dougherty is well coached and is always physical. They are a solid team and, as always, don’t try to do anything fancy, they just line up and come at you and play good defense,” said Cairo coach Tom Fallaw.
Both teams will be looking to get back on the winning track Friday night. Kickoff for Friday’s region match up with Dougherty begins at 7:30 p.m. at West Thomas Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on WGRA radio and gaprep.com.
