Funeral service for Lucille Bentley is Thursday
Lucille Sheffield Bentley, “Granny,” passed away Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at the age of 102. She was born the second oldest of nine children to Bryant Allen Sheffield and Minnie Cornelia Brown Sheffield on June 14, 1907, in Miller County, Ga. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Marion Curtis Bentley, and two children: Donis Bentley King of Thomasville, Ga., and Curtis Delano “C.D.” Bentley of Cairo, Ga.
She married Mr. Bentley on April 30, 1927. In addition to farming with her husband in Grady County, Ga., she was employed by Cairo Pickle Company for many years. Both she and Curtis were lifelong members of Pine Level Baptist Church in Cairo.
She is survived by two daughters: Doris Bentley Reid, wife of Sanford Reid of Columbus, Ga., and Lottie Faye Bentley Lanier, wife of Wilber Lanier of Nevils, Ga.; 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 19 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Emma Lou Clenney of Blakely, Ga., and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Pine Level Baptist Church on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at 11 a.m. The funeral service will be officiated by the Rev. Dr. Sanford Reid, the Rev. Dr. Rudolph Starling and the Rev. Jim Weaver. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
