Syrupmakers to scrimmage Thursday

Quarterback Brian Walker hands off to LaQuinten Williams at Monday’s practice.

The Cairo Syrupmakers will scrimmage the Mitchell County Eagles Thursday night at 6 p.m. The scrimmage will give coach Tom Fallaw and his staff an opportunity to get a very young Syrupmaker team in a game-like situation.
“We have a lot of young, inexperienced players at just about every position and right now, they need some game experience. We can practice all day, but games are going to make them better,” said Fallaw.
Coach Fallaw is hoping to get his players in game-like situations. “Right now, they need to feel the speed of the game. Last year, obviously, we had a team that really didn’t need a scrimmage game, but this year we need to take advantage of the playing time and get our starters some reps,” said Fallaw.
Admission price for Thursday’s scrimmage game is $5. The 2009 season kicks off next Saturday, Aug. 22, against Bainbridge at West Thomas Stadium.
