Renaud is champion swimmer

Meredith Renaud is the daughter of Charles and Robin Renaud of Cairo.

Cairo and Grady County are home to yet another state champion. In addition to Grady County being the home of the State AAA Champion Cairo Syrupmaker football team, the county can now lay claim to their very own state champion swimmer. Eight-year-old Meredith Renaud won the 25-yard breaststroke championship last Friday in Tifton.
Over 700 swimmers competed in the two-day tournament, and Renaud, the daughter of Charles and Robin Renaud of Cairo, competed in the 25-yard backstroke and 25-yard breaststroke events. In addition to her state championship in the breaststroke event, young Meredith nearly claimed two state titles, finishing second in the backstroke event by just .04 seconds.
“It was an exciting day for us! It was an incredible experience to hear her named called as the state champion in the breaststroke event,” said her father Charles.
Meredith swims for the ATAC Thomasville swim team at the YMCA in Thomasville and has been swimming for two years. The young champion has also inspired her six-year-old sister to hit the pool next year. “Our younger daughter, Amanda, was really excited about her sister’s accomplishment and wants to start training next year,” Charles Renaud said.
Meredith earned the right to compete at the state level with a district win two weeks ago in Tifton and now has a bright, shiny gold medal as proof of her championship accomplishment.
