Syrupmakers shut out Worth

The Cairo Syrupmakers made quick work of the Worth County Rams in soccer last Thursday night with a 10-0 shutout win in the first game of the night at West Thomas Stadium. Meanwhile, the Syrupmaids lost a heartbreaker to the Lady Rams 0-1 in the second game of the evening.
Between games, Cairo High School recognized their senior soccer players. Syrupmaid seniors recognized included Jasmine Arbeary, Kelsi Carraway, Ashley Cumbie, Tara Womble, Malone Williams and Tangie Thomas. Syrupmaker seniors recognized were Hunter Dalton, Logan Gainous, Brendan Carter, Tom LeGette, John McClenny, Edgardo Trejo and Joseph Strickland.
In the first game, Cairo shutout the Rams and put 10 goals in for the region 1-AAA win. Lee Ponder, Nick Fusco, Mose Willis and Logan Gainous all had two goals each. Cairo also picked up goals from Edgardo Trejo and John McClenny.
John McClenny had three assists in the game and John Holt had two. Edgardo and Josh Trejo both had assists in the win as well, along with Joel Bass and Mose Willis.
In the second game of the night, the Lady Rams scored a goal early and held on for the 1-0 win over the Syrupmaids. Cairo will travel to Peach County Friday night for another region match up with the girls playing at 5:30 and the boys at 7:30 p.m.
