Syrupmakers roll over Westover

John McClenny is shown making one of his five assists on the night against Westover.
Catherine Wilson led the Maids with two goals in the region 1-AAA win in the first game of the night. Cairo also picked up goals from Tabor Forgay, Ashley Cumbie and Derika Johnson. Anytime you can pick up a shutout win, that means good defense and the Maids did just that Friday night, according to their coach. “I thought we played great defense. Jennifer Donalson, Tabor Forgay, Karletha Moore, Kelsi Carraway and Jasmine Arbeary all had a great game on defense for us,” said Syrupmaid coach Barbara Godwin.
In the boys game, John McClenney had five assists on all five goals for the Makers in their region win. Lee Ponder led the Makers with two goals, while Joel Bass, Mose Willis and Logan Gainous each had one. Gainous’ goal put the Makers ahead for good, after being tied at two.
“I thought everyone played well. McClenny’s five assists was outstanding, that was a big win for us tonight,” said Syrupmaker coach Robbie Peterson.
Cairo plays Monroe at home Tuesday night at West Thomas Stadium. The girls play at 5:30 p.m. and the boys will follow at 7:30 p.m.
