Syrupmakers swat Yellow Jackets

Cairo’s Kiyauna Masten scored 14 points for the Maids in game one of the night and Kierra Addison added 11, but it wouldn’t be enough to defeat the Thomas County Central Lady Jackets. JaCourtney Alexander and Dominique Davis each had six points for the Maids as well.
The Lady Jackets, leading 16-11 after one quarter, outscored the Syrupmaids 20-8 in the second quarter to take a 36-19 to the locker room at the half. Cairo bounced back in the third quarter, outscoring Central 17-12, but the Lady Jackets responded with 21 points to Cairo’s 13 in the fourth to pick up the nonregion win.
In the second game of the night, Cairo and Thomas County Central played nip and tuck basketball. Both teams scored 11 points in the first quarter, and Thomas County Central outscored Cairo 19-16 in the second quarter to lead 30-27 at the half.
Cairo edged the Jackets in the third quarter, scoring 17 to the Jackets 16, and then scored 16 fourth quarter points to pull off a two-point win 60-58. Both teams battled all night, exchanging leads throughout the contest.
Cairo’s Kentrail Brown led all scorers with 20 points on the night. Terrell Bryant had 11 points and Scooby Bodiford, Dwayne Isom and Darrie Stephens each had six points in the win.
Cairo played Dougherty on Tuesday night at the Cairo Gym and will travel to Albany to take on Monroe on Friday night. The Syrupmakers and Syrupmaids will be back at home on Tuesday to play Westover in a big region match up at the Cairo gym. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the game can be heard on WGRA radio.
