Carlton Gainous is named Athletic Director of the Year

Cairo High School Athletic Director Carlton Gainous has been named Athletic Director of the Year for region 1-AAA. This is the second time in Gainous’ 11 year career as CHS A.D. that he has been recognized by the group. The Cairo High School athletic director was tapped in 2001, as well. Coach Gainous will be recognized by the Georgia Athletic Director’s Association at their annual conference in March in Savannah.
During Gainous’ tenure as the CHS A.D., Cairo High School has won 35 region titles in all sports and a state championship in football. The CHS Athletic Department has been awarded the “All-Sports Trophy” and the region Sportsmanship Award twice during his tenure.
“We are certainly proud of coach Gainous and this honor. He does a great job with our athletic program which is well respected around the state. He has been able to bring in quality coaches who have been an asset to both our schools and community. Our entire staff and student body congratulate coach Gainous,” said Cairo High School Principal David McCurry.
Gainous is married to Suela and they have three daughters, Brittany, Carley and Aubrey.
