In less than two weeks, visitors to Grady General Hospital will have to change the direction they enter the front parking lot as the medical facility prepares for construction to begin on its new skilled nursing home.
As of Monday, June 21, 11th Avenue S.E., which runs along the northern side of the hospital, will be closed.
Drivers who want to access the hospital’s front parking lot will have to enter from 12th Avenue SE, according to hospital officials.
The new long term care facility will be built on the vacant lot currently located across 11th Avenue S.E. from the hospital. The City of Cairo abandoned that portion of 11th Avenue between Fifth Street S.E. and Sixth Street S.E. so the hospital could utilize it to connect the new facility with the existing hospital building.
The 66,000 square foot facility will include 75 beds, both private and semi-private. Hospital officials say construction should be completed by May 2022.
