Two more local COVID-19 deaths are reported

Grady County lost two more residents to COVID-19 in the last week, bringing the total number of locals killed by the disease to 49. There were 11 new cases involving Grady County residents diagnosed here in the last week, according to data from the Georgia Department of Public Health.
To our south, Leon County, Florida saw a big decline in the number of new cases reported, dropping from 361 new cases the previous week to only 123 new cases in the last seven days, according to information from the Florida Department of Health.
Other neighboring counties such as Mitchell, Thomas and Decatur saw an increase of four, 17 and three new cases respectively in the last week. Only Mitchell County experienced an additional death during the same time period. The number of residents killed by COVID-19 in Thomas and Decatur counties remained unchanged.
As of Tuesday, Grady General Hospital was treating two COVID-positive patients and Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville was treating seven, according to spokeswoman Shealy Register.
Grady County Schools are out for summer break, so no data was available concerning local school-aged children.
