The Zebulon, Cairo’s historic downtown theater, is marking its 85th anniversary this month and this weekend the community is invited to take part in the celebration.
Zebulon general manager Robert Dykes announced that in observance of the theater’s opening on April 15, 1936 he will screen the very first movie shown at the Zebulon on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
“We’ll let the movie be a surprise,” Dykes said.
The special anniversary film will be shown at 2 p.m. both days and admission is complimentary, but there is a limit of 50 patrons per showing.
“We’d like the community to join with us in celebrating 85 great years,” Dykes said.
Light refreshments will be served and the theater’s snack bar will also be open, according to the theater’s general manager.
In addition to the anniversary feature film, the Zebulon is also showing Mortal Combat this weekend. Showtimes are Friday at 7 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday at 6 p.m.
“Come enjoy a movie on the big screen and support your hometown theater,” Dykes said.
