Before the middle school baseball game on March 4, Whigham School had a special ceremony to honor former student athlete, Emerson Hancock. Hancock’s #11 baseball jersey was officially retired and will hang in the school gym.
Hancock attended Whigham School and played baseball, as well as football and basketball, during his middle school years.
Hancock was the number six Major League Baseball draft pick last year and is currently at spring training with the Seattle Mariners.
His parents, Mona and Don Hancock, along with former Whigham teachers, administrators and coaches, attended the ceremony.
Don Hancock threw the ceremonial first pitch in honor of his son.
“Whigham School is proud of Emerson’s accomplishments and happy to have played a small role in his journey,” says the school’s athletic director, Augusta Bostick.
