The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an alleged inmate suicide at Grady Detention Center that was discovered Friday.
Tre’von Marquez Davis, 20, of Cairo, was arrested Thursday on a charge of probation violation. Davis was booked into the jail at 7:26 p.m., according to information from the Grady County Sheriff’s Office.
Due to COVID-19 protocols, Davis was placed in a medical isolation cell that evening, according to Jamy Steinberg, special agent in charge with the G.B.I. in Thomasville.
On Friday at approximately 11:45 a.m., inmates discovered Davis had allegedly hanged himself and was unresponsive in his cell.
“Lifesaving measures were initiated and he was transported to a local hospital where he died,” states information released by the G.B.I. Tuesday night.
The Grady County Sheriff’s Office asked the G.B.I. to assist in the death investigation at 12:57 p.m. Friday, the statement explains. No further information was released as the investigation continues.
