Local and state law enforcement agencies joined forces Monday to round up six drug suspects here following a three-month investigation into alleged drug sales at a local commercial business. A seventh suspect remained at-large at press time.
About 35 officers with the Grady County Sheriff’s Office, Cairo Police Department and Georgia Bureau of Investigation began at 7 a.m. Monday rounding up the suspects, most from their homes.
“The investigation started with citizen complaints of drug sales happening at the Valero Travel Center,” states a report issued by Michael Logue, commander of the G.C.S.O. Drug Unit. “The G.C.S.O. Drug Unit conducted surveillance over a period of approximately two months and other operations which resulted in a total of 21 felony arrest warrants for seven suspects for multiple charges of sale of cocaine, sale of methamphetamine, conspiracy, and use of a telecommunication facility.”
Logue points out that at no time was there evidence that any employee or manager of the business, located on U.S. 84 in Cairo, was involved in the illegal activity.
“The suspects were utilizing the open business as a meet up place for drug transactions,” the drug commander states.
Arrested were:
Randy Martel Wooten, 28, Cairo, on two counts of sale of cocaine, two counts of use of a communication facility in committing or facilitating a drug transaction, and one count of conspiracy to commit a crime (sale of cocaine).
John Howard Sutton, 49, Whigham, sale of methamphetamine, conspiracy to commit a crime (sale of meth), two counts of use of a communication facility in committing or facilitating a drug transaction, and possession of methamphetamine for meth allegedly found at the time of his arrest.
Mitch Narell Daniels, 34, Calvary, sale of cocaine, conspiracy to commit a crime (sale of cocaine), and use of a communication facility in committing or facilitating a drug transaction.
Robert Lee Robinson, 21, Cairo, sale of cocaine, conspiracy to commit a crime (sale of cocaine), and use of a communication facility in committing or facilitating a drug transaction.
Frederick Darnel Sanders, 49, Cairo, sale of cocaine and conspiracy to commit a crime (sale of cocaine).
Johnathan Daniel White, 28, Cairo, on one count of sale of methamphetamine.
Still at large Tuesday was Jeffery Marion Crosson, 37, wanted on charges of sale of methamphetamine, conspiracy to commit a crime (sale of meth), and use of a communication facility in committing or facilitating a drug transaction.
Logue says this is not the last of such investigations, stating, “The Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Unit will continue to conduct similar operations with the assistance of the Cairo Police Department and the GBI. We will continue to work together to serve the citizens of Grady County and to combat the drug problem in our community.”
