Senator David Perdue
Georgia U.S. Senator David Perdue is scheduled to bring his campaign bus tour to Cairo Friday morning, and the public is invited to attend.
Jeffery Jolly, chairman of the Grady County Republican Party, says Perdue will hold a rally behind the local G.O.P. headquarters in downtown Cairo beginning at 10 a.m. Friday.
“We are excited that a sitting U.S. Senator is coming to Cairo,” says Jolly. “He’s going to find a warm crowd that is looking forward to seeing and hearing him.”
Perdue is in a runoff with democratic challenger Jon Ossoff, who has not yet visited Grady County.
Early voting is taking place now at the Grady County Courthouse, and the actual runoff election date is Jan. 5.
Also on the runoff ballot is Georgia’s junior U.S. Senator, Kelly Loeffler, also a republican. Loeffler’s runoff opponent is Raphael Warnock. As of presstime, there were no known plans for any other Senatorial candidates to campaign here.
“It’s kind of different because we’ve got all these holidays in the middle of it. . .Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s. But, yes, there is excitement,” says Jolly.
The local G.O.P. headquarters is located at 115 South Broad Street in Cairo.
