COURTNEY WILLIAMS was one of 779 who had voted early as of Tuesday.
Interest in early voting for the Jan. 5 runoff election headlined by two U.S. Senate races is record-breaking both statewide and locally.
According to news reports, nearly 40,000 more people voted Monday statewide than did on the first day of advance in person voting for the Nov. 3 general election.
Grady County chief registrar Malinda Butler reports that 418 voters cast ballots Monday here and another 361 on Tuesday for a total as of the close of business Tuesday of 779.
In addition, approximately 700 of the 2,117 absentee ballots requested have been cast and returned to the Board of Registrars office.
Topping the ballot is the race between incumbent republican Senator David Perdue and his democratic opponent Jon Ossoff.
Newly appointed republican Senator Kelly Loeffler is being challenged by Raphael Warnock.
The ballot also includes the runoff between Public Service Commissioner Lauren “Bubba” McDonald, a republican, and Daniel Blackman, a democrat.
Advance in person voting is taking place on the first floor of the Grady County Courthouse between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. through Thursday, Dec. 31. There will not be a day of Saturday voting for the runoff.
The runoff election day is Tuesday, Jan. 5. Polls will be open 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
