EMERSON HANCOCK signed autographs for children of the Jackie Robinson Boys & Girls Club in Cairo on Friday.
The children and staff of the Jackie Robinson Boys & Girls Club welcomed hometown Major League Baseball player Emerson Hancock with cheers and applause as he visited with them Friday, just two weeks before he headlines their Annual Diamond Affair fund raiser. Hancock, who was the sixth overall draft pick last summer, plays for the Seattle Mariners.
“Our JRBGC children were so excited to see him in person after watching highlights and learning things about Emerson last week. They colored pictures of him that they wanted to present to him. He in return signed fans with his picture on them that were donated by United National Bank to give to every child at the club. It was all very touching for him to sacrifice some of his time to come by and talk with our children,” says JRBGC director Stephen Francis.
Hancock will be the keynote speaker at Diamond Affair on Thursday, Dec. 17. Presented by Koyo Bearings, the event begins at 7 p.m. at the Grady Cultural Center, 101 First St. N.W., Cairo.
Hancock is a 2017 graduate of Cairo High School who then played for the University of Georgia before signing with the Mariners.
Diamond Affair also includes dinner and entertainment with sponsorships beginning at $250. They may be purchased by contacting the club or visiting mnw-bgc.org.
