Although there is no Christmas Parade this year in Cairo, there are still activities on the schedule for Thursday evening, the time when the parade was originally expected to take place prior to the pandemic.
The Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with United National Bank to offer two drive-by experiences between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and the Zebulon movie theater is showing “The Grinch” at 6 p.m. with limited seating. The Grinch himself will be on hand for pictures with kids.
United National Bank is holding a live nativity on the lawn outside its office for motorists to enjoy as they drive through the bank parking lot.
The chamber is bringing Santa to town for children to see from their vehicles. The jolly old elf will be stationed a safe distance from the live nativity.
The “progressive Christmas experience” that is taking the place of the parade will continue at local homes, schools, businesses and churches for motorists to drive by and enjoy the decorations using the theme “A Brighter Tomorrow.”
Koyo Bearings is creating a decorative drive-thru experience that will be open to the public, Monday through Friday, Dec. 3-23, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. People may drive through the front gate and exit through the back.
Other businesses in Cairo decorating include, Cairo Auto Supply, 301 First Ave. NE; Cairo Coffee Company, 152 S. Broad St.; Grady Finance Company, 166 S. King says she hopes to have a driving map of the decorated addresses available to distribute Thursday evening. Tickets for the Zebulon’s “The Grinch” go on sale at the theater’s box office Thursday at 5:30 p.m., $3 for adults, free for children.
