CONSTRUCTION IS UNDERWAY at full steam at Eastside Elementary School. Crews are preparing the pad for the new building to be constructed.
Work is now underway on the much anticipated construction project at Eastside Elementary School.
Originally, school officials had hoped to break ground on the project in March, but numerous delays in the architect finalizing the plans and obtaining state approval ultimately delayed the project.
At the November meeting of the Grady County Board of Education, the board authorized the superintendent to execute a guaranteed maximum price contract of $7,297,815 with PDC Construction, Inc. of Bainbridge for the Eastside project.
The massive project includes a new administration building, new classrooms and media center as well as a new cafeteria and kitchen.
Financing from the project is coming through a combination of $3.1 million in modernization funds from the Georgia Department of Education as well as $4 million from the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax #5.
“I am very pleased to finally get this project underway. Hopefully it will be completed by September 2021,” Grady County School Superintendent Dr. Kermit Gilliard said this week.
Crews are busy preparing the pad for the new administrative building at the front of the school.
Dr. Gilliard also reported this week that it appears the new Northside Elementary School cafeteria and kitchen project will be completed in January. This project is also being constructed by PDC Construction. The school system earned approximately $300,000 from the state and the balance of approximately $1.2 million will be paid out of ESPLOST #4 funds earmarked for Northside. The current EPSLOT is #5.
“We remain about two months ahead of schedule on this project,” Dr. Gilliard said.
