Congressman Bishop to campaign here Sunday

With general election day coming on Tuesday, veteran Congressman Sanford Bishop will be making a final campaign stop here Sunday in advance of November 3.
A Grady County Caravan event has been planned by Bishop’s campaign and local Democratic Party officials. The event kicks off at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Azalea Park in northwest Cairo.
Other Democratic candidates expected to participate in the caravan are State House democratic candidate Booker Gainor, incumbent Grady County Dist. 4 Commissioner LaFaye Copeland, and democratic candidate for sheriff Donald “Dickie” Thomas and coroner candidate Latosha Copeland.
Local elected officials including Cairo City Councilmen Lannis Thornton and Demario Byrden along with Grady County Board of Education Chairwoman Teresa Gee Hardy and board member Gerald Goosby are also expected to attend.
U.S. Representative Bishop has represented Cairo and Grady County since being elected to the Second Congressional District post in 1992.
The schedule calls for the event to conclude by 3:30 p.m.
Assisting in the planning for the campaign event are Grady County Democratic Committee members Sandra Sallee – chair, Erica Hunter – vice chair, Margaret Tyson – treasurer, Tony Ward, Dorothy Adams, Emma Fortner, Frank Roebuck, Sam Gainous, Stephen Hinson, Cheryl Hinson, Clay Chason, Mary Bush and Shirley Reese.
