Local grocery shoppers now have expanded opportunities to save on their weekly grocery bill with the opening of the new Save A Lot grocery store.
The new store is opening its doors to the public today, its first day of operations in the city of Cairo.
The discount grocer opened with a ribbon cutting this morning at 8 a.m., and is offering special buys throughout the store to celebrate its grand opening including selling whole chickens for $1 each with a limit of one per customer, according to district manager, Greg Reese.
Save A Lot is located at 429 Second Ave. S.E., most recently a Fred’s, and will be open seven days a week, 8 a.m. until 9 p.m., according to store manager, Bob Smith.
Charlie Danik, director of operations for Save A Lot says the business is known for offering groceries that are 30-40 percent lower in cost than their competitors.
The inventory is a mix of their brands and national brand products. Reese says the store will also open a deli soon.
The local store will employ about 17 people, according to Reese. Assistant manager is Dave Scott and market manager is Kenneth Bell. To contact the business, call (229) 397-4290.
