The Help Agency in Cairo will distribute bags of food to those in need Tuesday morning. Located at 1651 N. Broad St., the Help Agency will conduct the give away on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
There will be signs directing traffic and deputies with the Grady County Sheriff’s Office will be present, according to Cindy Johnson, spokeswoman for the Help Agency.
Johnson said, “It is hard to be able to provide our usual services with our doors closed to the public, but we intend to provide food aid on the last Tuesday of each month until we can return to normal hours. Our staff is made up totally by volunteers and we are doing our best to keep everyone safe while still serving Grady County citizens in need. We have received many fantastic donations during this epidemic and can be reached by mail at P.O. Box 1452. We have no idea how many families will show up Aug. 25 and we ask for everyone’s patience.”
Officials with the local charitable organization ask that no more than two families be represented per car. They also request that people wear their masks and arrive no earlier than 8:30 a.m. to avoid traffic stops on the highway.
The Agency closed after March 11 when the coronavirus began affecting Grady County. They continue to assist people with utilities, rent and medical bills. Requests for assistance must be made between 9 a.m. and noon on Tuesdays by calling (229) 377-2709.
