THE SCRUGGS COMPANY finished paving State Park Road Tuesday and Grady County Road Superintendent Stanley Elkins says the road will be striped today.
The much anticipated paving of State Park Road was completed Tuesday, according to Grady County Road Superintendent Stanley Elkins.
Striping of the road is set to be done today, Aug. 12, according to Elkins and then county crews will work on the shoulder and back-slope to get grass growing now that paving has been completed.
The Scruggs Company was the contractor for paving the approximately two mile stretch of the county road.
Grady County commissioners have discussed renaming the road since a state park here or on that road is no longer a possibility.
The county road superintendent was complimentary of the work. “I think they did a pretty good job,” Elkins said.
State Park Road is the main entrance to Tired Creek Lake and the main boat ramp at the proposed site of a marina for the 960-acre lake. The road also provides access to the public fishing jetty and the lake’s dam.
In March, the Grady County Commission accepted the low bid of $485,015.85 from The Scruggs Company of Valdosta to pave the main thoroughfare to Tired Creek Lake.
Grady County administrator J.C. (Buddy) Johnson III, says that District 173 State Representative Darlene Taylor was instrumental in the state increasing the county’s funding from the Department of Transportation by approximately $386,000 to help the county have sufficient funding to complete the project.
