U.S. Rep. Doug Collins
U.S. Rep. Doug Collins has scheduled a brief campaign stop in Cairo later this month and the public is invited, according to local G.O.P. officials.
During a swing through south Georgia, Rep. Collins will travel to Cairo on Thursday, Aug. 27, with plans to be at the local G.O.P. headquarters at 10:30 a.m.
Jeff Jolly, chairman of the Grady County Republican Party, says the public is invited to the informal gathering at the G.O.P. office, which is located at 115 South Broad Street in downtown Cairo.
Collins is running to fill the remaining years in the term of former U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., who retired late last year. Kelly Loeffler, R-Ga., was appointed to hold the seat until the special election, which is an open contest involving candidates from all parties on the same ballot and is slated for Nov. 3. A runoff will be held in January if no one candidate gains more than 50 percent of votes, a strong likelihood with 21 candidates on the November ballot.
