SCHOOL BOARD VOTES TO DELAY SCHOOL REOPENING UNTIL SEPT. 8

The Grady County Board of Education voted unanimously this evening, July 23, to delay the reopening of school until the day after Labor Day, Tuesday, Sept. 8, on the recommendation of Public Health officials due to an increase in local cases of COVID-19. Grady County School superintendent Dr. Kermit Gilliard also said that this would give additional time for teachers to be trained and prepared to provide virtual instruction. The results of a recent survey of parents and guardians revealed that nearly half of those responding want their child(ren) to avoid the school building and receive virtual or blended instruction. The Messenger will continue to report on this major change.
