CREWS ARE BUILDING a detour bridge north of Cairo.
Work is progressing on the construction of a bypass bridge as crews prepare to construct a new bridge north of Cairo on Georgia Highway 93/111 North.
Doyle Hancock & Sons Construction, Inc. of Doerun was awarded the $2,521,427.12 contract for the project by the Georgia Department of Transportation.
The existing bridge was constructed in 1930 and widened in 1950 to 30 feet.
According to Nita Birmingham of the Georgia Department of Transportation, the new bridge will be 40 feet in width.
Once the new bridge is complete, the detour bridge will be removed.
