BABS WALDEN is just one of many local citizens who sewed gowns out of plastic table cloths to provide protection for medical workers.
Local seamstresses reached a key benchmark when they completed their 300th medical gown within a two week period. And, a local industry joined their efforts and more than tripled their contribution. Woodhaven Furniture Industries made and donated 1,000 gowns after seeing an April 22 article in The Messenger about the local effort to provide protective equipment for healthcare workers, according to Nola Daughtry, coordinator of the plastic gown project.
Thanks to the work of cutters, sewers, in-kind and monetary donors, the one-use medical gowns are being distributed to local doctors’ offices and first responders.
Mrs. Daughtry said after reaching a total of 1,300 gowns, the project ended on Friday.
“We are blessed in Grady County to have wonderful citizens to step up for the cause,” says Daughtry. “These volunteers are helping our health workers and first responders to stay healthy and safe for all of us.”
