A ROBBERY MONDAY AT DOLLAR GENERAL on Second Avenue is under investigation by Cairo Police.
An unknown suspect robbed a Dollar General clerk in broad daylight and got away with the store’s bank deposit Monday. The clerk was in the store parking lot walking to her car when the incident happened Monday at 12:53 p.m, according to Cairo Police, at the Dollar General located at 425 Second Avenue S.E.
The victim tells police that the man walked up to her car and grabbed the bank bag.
The clerk tried to spray the suspect with mace, but sprayed herself instead. The offender left the bank bag on the floor of her vehicle and escaped with the cash.
The suspect is only described as a tall black man who was wearing a white t-shirt at the time of the robbery.
It was almost three years ago, to the day, that the same store was robbed in a violent manner by two armed men. That robbery, though, happened at closing as store employees were leaving for the night on Wednesday, March 22, 2017.
In that case, the suspects wore masks and held a gun to one employee’s head and made him open the store safe. They roughed up both employees and left them lying on the floor face down as they fled from the store.
Anyone with information about this latest robbery is asked to call 9-1-1 or Cairo Police at (229) 378-3096.
