As the investigation continues into a pre-Christmas shooting death, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has released new information. The man killed was Jordan Logan Bennett, 29, shot multiple times on Sunday, Dec. 22. Bennett’s younger brother, William Cole Bennett, 22, is the identified shooter.
No charges had been filed in the case as of Friday, Dec. 27. “The case is still under investigation and the circumstances that led to the shooting are being evaluated and compared to the evidence and witness statements obtained. If charges are deemed appropriate, they will be brought upon discussion with the district attorney,” states Jamy Steinberg, special agent in charge with the G.B.I.
The shooting was reported to 911 at 12:47 a.m. Dec. 22, at 1290 Calvary Rd. S.W. Once on the scene, Cairo police discovered the victim and the shooter along with the weapon. Cairo Police asked the G.B.I. to assist in the investigation.
Although a state medical examiner conducted an autopsy on Logan Bennett last week, results are still pending, Steinberg says. He says once the autopsy and other lab reports are completed, he will discuss the case with District Attorney Joe Mulholland. Presumably, that is when any charges that may be brought in the case would be filed.
Meanwhile, anyone with information regarding the case is encouraged to contact the GBI Thomasville Office at (229) 225-5090 or the Cairo Police Department.
