Cairo Presbyterian Church is again hosting its Kirking O’ the Tartans on Sunday, Nov. 24, beginning at 4 o’clock in the afternoon.
The church began holding these celebrations of family and heritage back in 2000 and continues to welcome all to join them for this unique service.
From the bagpipers leading a procession of tartan banners and family quilts to the fellowship of a covered dish meal, it will be a special service as congregants celebrate family, friends and neighbors. In that spirit of community, a voluntary love offering will be taken up and given to the local Grady County Help Agency.
Dress is casual and tartan or plaid is encouraged, of course. Visitors don’t have to be Scottish or Irish or even Presbyterian. Church leaders say, “Just come, worship with neighbors and friends at 4 p.m. this Sunday afternoon on Nov. 24. You’ll even learn why we include family quilts, coverlets, afghans, etc. in our service.”
