MAINTENANCE WORK at multiple railroad crossings is expected to wrap up this week.
Work on three railroad crossings in Cairo continued Wednesday, but officials from CSX say many of the crossings should reopen by the end of the week. Rain has delayed completion of the maintenance work, according to a spokesperson with the railroad company.
Work on Fourth Street S.W. will include paving today, and the crossing may reopen this evening, according to a CSX spokesperson.
The Sixth Street crossing “will be paved Thursday and possibly reopened that evening,” the spokesperson stated, and Third Street crossing will be completed on Friday.
The Broad Street crossing will remain open as no work is scheduled there. Work is also underway at crossings west of Cairo.
The track maintenance is important for the safety of both trains and road traffic, according to the CSX media team.
The schedule of completion depends on the weather, so motorists are urged to have alternate routes in mind if needed.\
