A pair of Cairo men were arrested on drug charges after Cairo Police executed search warrants at three residences, all within 1,000 feet of a school and government housing. Two houses were also within 1,000 feet of a public park.
Jerrod Harris, 36, is charged with 21 counts in connection to MDMA, sometimes referred to as ecstasy or Molly, cocaine and marijuana.
Devanate Terrell Bryant, 27, was arrested on charges connected to cocaine, methamphetamine, and marijuana.
The search warrants were executed on Thursday, Oct. 10, at two homes “under the control” of Harris, 126 11th St. S.W. and 321 Teresa Edwards St. S.W. At both homes, officers say they found cocaine packaged to sell, multiple ounces of MDMA, including more than 500 tablets and the drug in powder form, and pounds of marijuana. They also seized U.S. Currency and a firearm.
Cairo Police say Bryant was in control of the residence at 326 Teresa Edwards St. S.W. where they allegedly seized a trafficking amount of methamphetamines (Ice), cocaine packaged for distribution, pound quantities of marijuana and two firearms, one of which had been reported stolen approximately a year ago.
All three houses are near Washington Middle School and Terrace Apartments public housing. The homes on Teresa Edwards Street are also near Holder Park.
“Possession of illegal drugs at or within 1,000 feet of these areas for the purpose of selling or distributing the drugs are a separate violation of the Georgia Drug Laws,” according to a statement from Cairo Police.
Harris is charged with possession of MDMA with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of MDMA within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a public housing facility, possession of MDMA within 1,000 feet of a public housing facility, and possession of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a public housing facility, all based on the search warrant executed at 126 11th St. S.W.
Harris is also charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute; trafficking MDMA, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of MDMA within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a public housing facility, possession of MDMA within 1,000 feet of a public housing facility, possession of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a public park, possession of MDMA within 1,000 feet of a public park, possession of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a public park, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, all connected to the search warrant executed at 321 Teresa Edwards St. S.W.
Bryant is charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, trafficking methamphetamines, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a public housing facility, possession of methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a public housing facility, possession of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a public park, possession of methamphetamines within 1,000 feet of a public park, possession of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a public park, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and theft by receiving a stolen firearm.
