Members of the Cairo High School Chorus will help kick off a University of Georgia soccer game this weekend. Mr. Bailey DeHart, promotions assistant for the University of Georgia’s Athletic Association, has invited the C.H.S. singing group to perform the National Anthem at an upcoming soccer game.
With permission from C.H.S. principal, Chris Lokey, and the Grady County Board of Education, Ms. Erikka Edwards, the director of choral activities, accepted the invitation. The chorus is scheduled to perform Sunday, Oct. 13, at 2 p.m. at the Turner Soccer Complex Field in Athens where the UGA soccer team will be playing against the University of Mississippi.
Ms. Edwards says it’s been a long time since an invitation of this magnitude has been extended to the Cairo High School Chorus. She says it is also the first time and an honor to perform at the University of Georgia for such an occasion.
Ms. Edwards says, “The chorus is doing exceptionally well. We are diligently striving to improve musicianship and vocal performance. I am very pleased with the direction the chorus is heading. I stand on the shoulders of two great past directors of the Cairo High School Chorus (Mr. Edwin Timmerman and Mr. Michael Inlow) and must uphold the integrity of this magnificent program.”
The students will travel to Atlanta on Saturday, Oct. 12, before getting to Athens.
Students making the trip are:Danashya Sanders; Daygiana Davis; Ebony Broomfield; Ella Folsom; Elly Groh; Emilee Ezell; Iversyn Session; James Rodden; Jasmine Cruz; Jhnya Huntley; Kenna Anderson; Keyshawn Barron; Leah Brown; Rose Reeve; Sanaa Augusta and Ty’keem James.
